Television Channel “Ukraine” is an Exclusive Broadcaster of the Oscar® Ceremony

Television channel “Ukraine” has acquired exclusive rights to broadcast the 90th Academy Awards® ceremony, the most prestigious film award of the world, which will be held in Los Angeles, CA, on March 4. For five consecutive years, television channel “Ukraine” has been giving Ukrainian views an opportunity to witness the main event of the world film industry.


The most famous actors, directors, singers, hosts and operators will step on the red carpet that night. A comedian Jimmy Kimmel will be the host of the Academy Awards® ceremony for the second time in a row.

Notably, this year’s ceremony will take place later than usually, on March 4. The day was rescheduled due to the Winter Olympic Games, which will be held from the 9th to 25th of February in Korea. The presentation of celebrities on the red carpet will begin at 18:30 local time, and the ceremony itself will start at 20:00.

The 90th Academy Awards® ceremony will be broadcasted in over 225 countries of the world, and the very first Oscar® broadcast took place is 1953.

This year, nine films will compete for the Oscar® in the Best Picture nomination: Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post, The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The category Achievement in Directing is represented by Christopher Nolan (Dunkirk), Jordan Peele (Get Out), Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), Paul Thomas Anderson (Phantom Thread), Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water).

Timothée Chalamet (Call me by Your Name), Daniel Day-Lewis (Phantom thread), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out), Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour), Denzel Washington (Roman J. Israel, Esq) will compete for an award in the Actor in a Leading Role nomination.

Actresses Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Margot Robbie (I, Tonya), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) and Meryl Streep (The Post) will vie in the Actress in a Leading Role category.

Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water received the most nominations (13). It is followed by Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, which has 8 nominations. The leading positions are also taken by Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread and Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, all of which were nominated 6 times each. All Oscar awards will be presented in 24 categories.
